ACPA Leader and Industry Expert Wins Presidency of Council for Advancement of Standards

Gavin Henning, Ph.D., higher education industry expert in assessment and immediate past president of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) (www.myacpa.org) has been elected President of the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) (www.cas.edu), the pre-eminent higher education organization for promoting standards in student affairs, student services, and student development programs. CAS individuals and institutions from 42 CAS member organizations comprise a constituency of over 115,000 professionals, representing a significant majority of higher education practitioners in student programs and services throughout the country and beyond.

Henning is Associate Professor of Higher Education and Director of the Doctorate of Education and Master of Higher Education Administration Programs at New England College. Henning is considered one of the leading scholars in the area of assessment in student affairs, having just released Student Affairs Assessment: Theory to Practice with Roberts and Coordinating Student Affairs Divisional Assessment: A Practical Guide with Yousey-Elsenser and Bentrim.

Marilee Bresciani Ludvik, Ph.D., Professor, ARPE, San Diego State University, reflected on Henning’s leadership in higher education, “For more than 20 years, I have been a colleague of Gavin Henning. I have a great deal of respect for Dr. Henning’s assessment and research work. I recommend him above all others when institutional leaders need assistance designing assessment and research solutions for the most complex problems.”
