Columbus, OH – The Center for Higher Education Enterprise (CHEE) announces the results of the 2016 Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs. It was an honor to conduct this study as part of a partnership with Diverse: Issues in Higher Education and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA)—College Student Educators International.

Now in its third year, Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs highlights 19 divisions of student affairs at ACPA-member institutions across the country. The findings were released today in the Thursday, February 25, 2016 edition of Diversemagazine. New to this year's edition is a list of five promising practices that exemplified why this year's institutions were deserving of the Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs designation.

CHEE was selected to conduct this study, under the leadership of Dr. Terrell Strayhorn, professor and director, who served as ACPA director of research and scholarship from 2009 to 2012.

With a focus on workplace diversity, staffing practices, and work environment, the CHEE research team used a web-based survey approach to examine categories such as family friendliness, salary/benefits, and professional development opportunities, to name a few.

Cindi Love, executive director of ACPA, commented, “We want to express our deep appreciation to our respected colleagues at Diverse and the Center for Higher Education Enterprise at The Ohio State University for their research of workplace and workforce balance on campuses for student affairs professionals. We deeply value our partnership with Dr. Strayhorn and his team and look forward to the dissemination of results in our field.”

Ralph Newell, vice president of business development and technology for Diverse, remarked, “It is our mission to highlight and promote leading examples of diversity and inclusion as examples to all. We are pleased to partner with ACPA and CHEE to highlight the institutions recognized this year.”

And as principal investigator, Terrell Strayhorn shared, “CHEE is excited about the release of results from the 2016 Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs and we share our enthusiasm with our partners at ACPA and Diverse. Our study yields insight into diversity in the student affairs workplace and offers a useful tool for employers, career services staff, and job-seekers across the country. We are particularly pleased to add a list of Promising Practices that provide tangible ways other student affairs divisions and senior student affairs officers can use this year's results to improve practices. This is another step forward in our partnership.”
