Greetings!

I had the fortunate opportunity to visit with the faculty and attendees of the 16th Annual ACPA Donna M. Bourassa Mid-Level Management Institute on the campus of the University of Texas - Austin last month and it was outstanding.

Let me first thank the talented faculty who facilitated the Institute:

  • Patty Perillo, Vice President for Student Affairs, Virginia Tech
  • Steve Tyrell, President, North Country Community College
  • Felicia Lee, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs & Chief of Staff, UC Berkley
  • Chris Strong, Consultant, NYC
  • Robert Reason, Associate Professor, Iowa State University
  • Donna A. Lee, Vice President for Student Life, Agnes Scott College

I would also like to acknowledge Tricia Fechter, Senior Director of Professional Development, Research and Scholarship from the ACPA International Office, for assisting with the institute.

In addition to the faculty, nearly 60 participants from all over the United States engaged in a deliberate management curriculum, designed to assist mid-management professionals with the tools to remain current and visionary for future advancement.

This professional development institute is particularly special for me because it was named after former Associate Executive Director of ACPA, friend and colleague, Dr. Donna M. Bourassa, Ed.D.  I had the opportunity to know Donna throughout her entire professional career, beginning when I hired Donna as a Graduate Assistant as she worked on her master's degree and later as her supervisor at ACPA, before her death from cancer in 2004.

I encourage our mid-level colleagues to consider participating in future institutes, if appropriate, or one of the many other excellent professional development symposium/institute ranging from entry-level to senior-professional.

Again, many thanks for a quality faculty and a successful institute.

Greg
