Texas SB6 Bathroom Bill

Dear Colleagues,

Congratulations on your hard work in behalf of justice. The Texas Senate had refused to concur with the Texas House on the proposed "bathroom bill" which overtly discriminated against Trans identified people.  Since 2015, ACPA members have been actively protesting this type of egregious legislation in Texas.   We've raised awareness and provided education through shipments to legislators of Trans* in College: Transgender Students' Strategies for Navigating Campus Life and the Institutional Politics of Inclusion by Z Nicolozzo.

We've called and e-mailed Texas legislators at every critical juncture in the bill's progression, met individually with Senate leaders and flown to Austin to provide testimony at hearings.

Your support has directly influenced the positive outcome of the special session in Texas. You have contributed to greater understanding of  the human implications of discriminatory laws.

Governor Abbott has not ruled out the possibility of a second special session. The failure of a property tax bill to pass could be an impetus for such a session.  If this happens, rest assured, ACPA will be engaged in protesting any form of this bill or its passage.

Best,

Cindi
