Faculty for the 2015 Student Affairs Assessment Institute

In addition to serving as deputy to the Vice President for Student Affairs, he provides leadership for five departments: Career Services, Housing & Residence Life, Dining Services, Fraternity & Sorority Life, and Student Conduct. In this capacity, Frank leads a staff of over 2,000 full- and part-time employees and a budget exceeding $100 million. His other responsibilities include co-chairing the Blacksburg-Virginia Tech Town-Gown Committee with Deputy Town Manager Steve Ross, serving as Virginia Tech’s Deputy Title IX Coordinator, and working closely with faculty to champion the seamless integration of academic and student life. He also serves on the advisory councils for University Libraries, the Department of Agricultural, Leadership & Community Education (College of Agriculture and Life Science), and the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (College of Business).

Frank’s writing and research interests focus on student learning and engagement, positive psychology and its influence on student growth and development, honors programs, residential colleges, and approaches to reorganizing colleges and universities to bolster student engagement and learning. In 2013, Frank was selected to be the fifth Executive Editor of About Campus, a bimonthly magazine dedicated to educators who want to thoughtfully examine the issues, policies, and practices that influence the learning experiences of college students. Previously, Frank served as Associate Editor for the Journal of College and University Student Housing, and on the editorial board of the Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice.

Victoria Livingston is currently the Coordinator of Co-Curricular Assessment & Program at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. In this position she oversees a variety of assessment, planning and reporting initiatives for the Division of Student Affairs and its partners. She previously served as the Assistant Director of Planning & Assessment at Northern Illinois University. She graduated with a M.S. in Higher Education Administration from The University of Akron and a B.A. in Political Science and History from Ashland University. Victoria is in her fourth year of service on the directorate board for ACPA’s Commission for Assessment and Evaluation and is currently serving as the Vice Chair for the 2015 Student Affairs Assessment Institute. 

Jen Meyers Pickard is the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Communications in Student Affairs and Enrollment Management/Academic Initiatives and Student Success at the University of Arizona. With over 15 years of higher education experience in academic advising, orientation, parent programs, assessment, and research, Jen serves as a member of the SAEM/AISS senior leadership team overseeing divisional initiatives and planning, Assessment and Research, faculty programs, and divisional professional development. She earned both a Ph.D. and M.A. in College Student Personnel from the University of Maryland and a M.S. in psychology from Bowling Green State University. 

Martha Glass is the director of administration for assessment and professional development. In this capacity she coordinates assessment for 24 departments to develop and implement outcomes based assessment strategies that lead to continuous improvement of programs and services that support student learning. She also assists with strategic planning and accreditation activities and serves as a member of the DSA Leadership Team.  Dr. Glass holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in Higher Education from Virginia Tech.  She also teaches in the Higher Education program at Virginia Tech.  She is a member of the ACPA Commission on Assessment and Evaluation Directorate.

Kristen McKinney holds a doctorate in Higher Education and Organizational Change from the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies. She has an extensive background in institutional research and assessment including work in both academic and student affairs arenas. Currently, Dr. McKinney serves as the Director for UCLA’s Student Affairs Information and Research Office. Dr. McKinney is the chair of ACPA’s Commission for Assessment and Evaluation.

Amanda is the Executive Director for Residential Life and Housing at Indiana State University.  She has previously held positions at The Pennsylvania State University and the University of Alaska Southeast, Juneau.  Amanda is serving as the Past-Chair for ACPA’s Commission for Assessment and Evaluation.  She is currently working on completing her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from The Pennsylvania State University.   Her research interests include the impact of engaged scholarship in undergraduate education, sustainability, and development of assessment culture.  Amanda has been an invited faculty member and presenter for many different assessment conferences including the First Year Assessment Conference, ACPA’s Assessment Institute, and several past Residential Curriculum Institutes.

Jen Wells is the Director of Assessment in the Division for Student Success at Kennesaw State University.  Jen is also the Editor for the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education.  She earned her B.A. in German and History from Albion College in Michigan and her M.A. in Student Affairs Administration from Michigan State University.  She will complete her Ph.D. in College Student Affairs Administration in the spring of 2015. 

Jaime Williams serves as a team member in the department of Student Centers and Activities in her primary role of providing guidance and advisement to the Student Government Association. She also serves the Division of Student Affairs by coordinating assessment planning and implementation in her own department, assisting the coordinators of 15 different functional areas in their assessment efforts. Jaime serves on the Division of Student Affairs strategic plan implementation team and is active in training her colleagues in assessment. She received her M.A.Ed. in Higher Education Administration in 2008 from Virginia Tech.

Allison Kanny is the Coordinator of Assessment Support and Capacity Building within UCLA’s Student Affairs Information and Research Office. In this role, she supports Student Affairs departments in completing assessment work by providing individual consultation as well as facilitating profession development opportunities for Student Affairs staff. Dr. Kanny holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education and Organizational Change from the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies. Prior to this, she earned a M.A. in Urban Education with a clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Loyola Marymount University. Dr. Kanny completed her undergraduate studies at Occidental College. This is Dr. Kanny’s first year of service on the directorate board for ACPA’s Commission for Assessment and Evaluation.
