Dr. Cindi Love, Executive Director

This is a great time to be at ACPA and on campuses throughout the world. The creative energy potential for change now and in the next generation is palpable and I am excited to be in this moment with all of you. I spent the last decade in roles that were more clearly defined as “executive & activist” than “executive & advocate” and my new role at ACPA is a great exercise for my head, heart and hands in navigating new space. I’ve written a bit about that process in an upcoming ED Blog for October’s emphasis on careers in student affairs, so watch for that on our web site.

I am so grateful for the ACPA/NASPA Competencies that remind me of the strengths I have and the areas where I still need to develop.

None of us ever stops learning.

This blog is an update as well as an invitation to think deeply with me about the world in which we are operating and about the work that we prioritize as an association. I’ve encouraged our leaders and all of our team members to use an acronym L.A.M.P. (Lead. Amplify. Mobilize. Partner.) to think about each choice we make within the context of our strategic plan as well as the day to day activities that we schedule. For example, using the "L" I ask myself "Will the next appointment on my calendar create more opportunity for thought leadership in research and scholarship as well as the public domain?"

This is what we were thinking when we developed our alliances with Partnership for Healthier America and We End Violence/Agent of Change initiatives.

I also want to update you on a few of our activities that involve you. Our Governing Board just approved a new Chapter program for our State Divisions. Part of the motivation to do so was to conform to new IRS regulations and that necessity gave us a chance to open up some exciting new benefits for “dual-members” of ACPA and State Divisions.

Many of these benefits are supported by our partnership with the Trust for Insuring Educators (TIE).

ACPA members are eligible for favorable group pricing, specialized coverages, and association discounts on insurance protection from leading carriers. More than 15 plans are offered through the Trust for Insuring Educators (TIE), of which ACPA is a member, and include:

  • Professional liability insurance plans
  • GEICO auto, motorcycle, homeowners and renters insurance
  • Term life, accident and disability plans from New York Life
  • ACA compliant health plans; dental, cancer and long-term care insurance

Learn more about all of these plans, apply online or download applications by visiting the ACPA Member Insurance Program, administered by Forrest T. Jones & Company. Or call (800) 821-7303 weekdays and ask for customer service.

Our leaders will be at ACPA State meetings throughout the nation in October to talk about the new program and we hope to facilitate community wide conversations in a format called Constructing

Inclusion. The dialogue will be available via SkillShare as well. I am honored to join the great ACPA communities in New York, Wisconsin, Alaska (for the NIEA 2014 Convention & installation of Melvin Monette as President) and Michigan for the Michigan State Raines Colloquium.

I will also be in NYC at the Higher Education Forum 2014: Reconnecting Education to the Workforce hosted by The Economist and the Lumina Foundation Degree Qualifications Profile Launch in Indianapolis and CoHEASAP in DC for review of the SAMSHA Strategic Plan.

Finally, Shepherd University will be in D.C. in October to visit the ACPA International Office. I hope graduate and undergraduate faculty will schedule many of these site stops with us while in D.C. I learn so much from our students, practitioners and scholars.

Send me your ideas about what my L.A.M.P. schedule should include. I would love to hear from you.

Best,

Cindi
