The 2014 Institute for Aspiring SSAOs held November 2-4, 2014 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina in San Diego, California, USA looked to develop those who are considering a Senior Student Affairs Officer (SSAO) role as a future career goal. It explored ways in which our diverse backgrounds (such as gender identity and presentation, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and physical/cognitive qualities) impact our move to and experience within an SSAO role.

Those who attended the Institute truly left inspired. Davida L. Haywood, PhD a Senior Executive Director of the Student Life Multicultural Center at The Ohio State University said,

"Our faculty-in-residence were beyond incredible! They were, in essence, "spiritually-sent." They were, what I needed at this point, in my professional development. Their words of encouragement, but also "tough love," were what I needed to see, hear and experience. ACPA could not ask for better representation and dedication from individuals like Royster, Todd, John, Cissy, Luoluo and Zebulun. Please know that as I move forward in my career, I will support this endeavor of ACPA in any manner that I can. In addition, I will be sure to "pay it forward," by recommending one of my staff members on next year."
