Dear ACPA/NASPA members,

We have had the good fortune of co-chairing the ACPA and NASPA Professional Competencies Rubrics Task Force with an extraordinary group of colleagues (see below). The Task Force was charged to:

  1. Review the current ACPA Rubric document to ascertain this tool’s utility for assessment of an individual’s competencies, staff development, training planning, and/or other uses.
  2. Review and create a new jointly created document to reflect improved processes, additional uses, and the new competencies.
  3. Ground the new document and the use of rubrics in theory and best practices for student learning acquisition; create a preface with context to explain the purpose of rubrics that is grounded in assessment and evaluation best practice.
  4. Add an implication for use section that could include: self-assessment tool; how-to guide to develop training based on rubrics; samples of artifacts to collect to be used in job search.
  5. Edit the final product so that it is cohesive, consistent, polished, and accessible to professionals from a variety of backgrounds and levels of expertise.

We’ve considered all charges and have reviewed all professional competencies thoroughly since the Task Force was commissioned. We engaged our membership and boards at the ACPA convention and NASPA conference. We now want to offer all members a chance to weigh-in on our recommendations.

Please review the newly created ACPA/NASPA Rubrics Document. Upon review, please offer your feedback to us as it is most important. Note that this feedback process (website and feedback form) will be available to you until August 19. Please take the time to participate, as the ACPA/ NASPA Professional Competency Areas for Student Affairs Educators are critical work of our profession. We will review and consider all recommendations offered and incorporate, as needed, into our final recommendations to the ACPA Governing Board and NASPA Board of Directors.

Thanks in advance for all you will contribute,
