A core principle of any society is the freedom of worship and religion. Religion is not only an individual journey, but often a communal practice that carries with it a rich heritage and culture. In higher education, the struggle for religious freedom is often at the center of debate and hostility.

The ACPA Commission for Spirituality, Faith, Religion, & Meaning (CSFRM) aims to encourage research and assessment and the enrichment of professional knowledge about issues related to meaning-making, specifically spirituality, faith, religion, belief, and existentialism within the context of higher education. CSFRM aims to identify benchmark approaches to supporting the religious and spiritual freedom of students, faculty, and staff.

With the current federal administration’s recent proposal to ban travel from predominantly muslim countries, and the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold this ban, it is more important than ever to ensure that students are protected from religious intolerance.
