CCAPS: The Next 25 Years

 2012-2013 Accomplishments

  • In December 2012 and May 2013, CCAPS sponsored two webinars with The Center for Collegiate Mental Health (CCMH).  CCAPS continued to offer CEUs for psychologist who participated.
  • In April 2013, CCAPS sponsored a webinar on helping students on the autism spectrum.  Our presenter was Dr. Timothy Wahlberg, Prairie Center, Geneva, IL, a well-known expert in the field
  • In May 2013, CCAPS cosponsored a webinar with the Commission on Housing and Residential Life on preventing violence on campus.  Dr. Meggan Sixbey, a CCAPS directorate member was the presenter.
  • CCAPS’ new Technology committee and its members developed a Prezi for the ACPA CCAPS website introducing visitors to CCAPS and helping them understand how to get involved.  The Prezi was previewed at Convention, and is at the following link on the CCAPS website:http://prezi.com/gw5wz-lhqhnz/ccaps-guided-tour/
  • The CCAPS Technology committee also developed a CCAPS Facebook page.https://www.facebook.com/CommissionForCounselingAndPsychologicalServices
  • An addition to the CCAPS website was made, adding more information about Directorate members. www.myacpa.org/commission-counseling-and-psychological-services-directorate
  • CCAPS responded to various national situations.  CCAPS signed a School shooting position paper, developed by the Interdisciplinary Group on Preventing School and Community Violence.  This document asked legislators to consider mental health issues in a thoughtful fashion as they formulate gun control legislation, in response to the Sandy Hook shooting in December 2012. http://curry.virginia.edu/articles/sandyhookshooting.  CCAPS also signed on as part of HEMHA (Higher Education Mental Health Alliance) support for re-authorization of Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act in Spring 2013.
  • The post-convention newsletter was picked up by AUCCCD’s president for distribution to AUCCCD members because of its “informative” content.
  • CCAPS webmaster, David Gilles-Thomas produced a smartphone version of our CCAPS online listing of Convention programs and events for members.

 

2011-2012 Accomplishments

  • April 14:  First CCAPS Hot Topics Conference Call, co-sponsored with the Commission on Global Dimensions, “International Student Adjustment” presented by Dr. Sylvia Chen.  Over 265 phone lines (300-400 participants) registered for the call.
  • June 21:  First CCAPS webinar, co-sponsored with the Commission for Academic Affairs Administrators, “Student Mental Health and Academic Affairs:  Principles for Sharing Information” with Dr. Tom Berry (CCAPS) and Dr. Jamie Cooper (Academic Affairs).
  • September 14, CCAPS co-sponsored a webinar with the Commission on Wellness, “Size Discrimination:  A Heavy Issue”, with presenters, Amanda Buller and Sandi Cleveland.
  • October 21, CCAPS sponsored a webinar with The Center for Collegiate Mental Health “The Center for Collegiate Mental Health:  A Practice Research Network for College Counseling Centers” with Dr. Ben Locke presenting.  For the first time, CCAPS offered CE webinar credit to psychologists and counselors.
  • Dr. Sue Stock developed and implemented a mental health institute at the 2012 ACPA convention.
  • For the first time, CCAPS successfully nominated and sponsored a Diamond Honoree recipient-- Dr. Vivian Boyd.
  • For the first time, CCAPS funded a Next Generation Scholarship recipient, Ms. Haley Pierson.
  • CCAPS won two overall Commission awards from ACPA, the Award for Excellence: Membership & Recruitment and the Award for Excellence: Professional & Career Development.
