Over the course of the next several weeks, this blog will feature a different CASHE directorate board member.
This first one features our fearless leader, Anne Scheideler Sweet (2016-2017 Chair).
Institutions & Job Title: Rutgers University—Camden, Office of the Registrar, Senior Program Coordinator
How long on the directorate? I joined the CASHE directorate in 2015 at the Tampa convention.
What have been some significant experiences about being engaged/involved in ACPA CASHE? Being involved with ACPA, and CASHE specifically, has completely changed my perspective on professional development. Meeting so many wonderful people in this organization and seeing up close the opportunities to do meaningful work has made the consumption of and contribution to scholarship more accessible to me.
What is your vision for the directorate and ACPA at large? We have a fantastic directorate group this year with a fascinating variety of backgrounds and professional roles. Everyone has really kept the momentum going since our kickoff in Montreal and I look forward to seeing all the publications, webinars, and social media engagement.
What are your topical areas of interest (within and outside of ACPA CASHE)?
What do you do in your free time/ outside of work? Outside of work, most of my time is spent trying to keep up with my 2 kids! We like to get outside and enjoy the wilderness in the great Garden State.
Tell us one thing no one in ACPA knows about you? I might be quiet, but for the most part I'm an open book!
What is your favorite quote and why? "Education is not preparation for life. Education is life itself." John Dewey holds a special place in my heart due to his connection with my alma mater, the University of Vermont. According to Gallup, the most common phrase in college and university mission statements is lifelong learning and this quote helps to ground my work with students and keep bringing me back to why we're here and doing this work.
Is there anything else you want to share in your highlight? I'm happy to chat with anyone who's interested in learning more about involvement with CASHE, please don't hesitate to contact me!
