Elizabeth Gonzalez (2016-2019 Cohort)

Elizabeth González, MSW, LMSW is the Assistant Director for Clinical Services at the University of Michigan. Ms. González's clinical experiences are primarily in the area of adolescent and adult mental health. Specifically, her clinical work is focused on eating disorders, trauma, gender identity, and LGBTQ concerns. Through her work at CAPS she developed two support groups; Las Comadres and We’re the First. These groups support self-­‐identified Latina/Afro-­‐ Latina graduate students and first-­‐generation college students, respectively. 
 
Ms. González has experience working in higher education institutions, non-­‐profits, and clinical settings in Texas, Michigan, and Costa Rica. She has worked for the Upward Bound program at Huston-­‐Tillotson University and for the AmeriCorps-­‐ Community Mentor Program at St. Edward's University. In addition, she has worked at the National Domestic Violence Hotline, Breakthrough Austin, Safe House Center in Ann Arbor, and Casa de Derechos in Costa Rica.
 
When Ms. González is not engaged in clinical work you can find her serving on the Board of Directors for Casa Latina in Ann Arbor, reading historical fiction, and running 10Ks.

John Guthman (2016-2019 Cohort)

Director – Office of Student Counseling Services
Dr. Guthman’s professional commitment to Hofstra University began more than 20 years ago, initially as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Psychology and shortly thereafter as a counselor in the office of Student Counseling Services, where he currently serves as Director. The most rewarding aspect of his work continues to be represented by opportunities to assist students with their personal concerns and collaborating with others who are doing the same.  His formal education as a licensed psychologist began as an undergraduate psychology student at Northeastern University and included graduate training in clinical psychology programs at Western Michigan University and Hofstra University. Clinical work in hospital, school and community agency settings has helped shape his understanding of psychology as a diverse professional field with abundant opportunities for service and life-­‐long learning.

Stephanie Preston (2016-2019 Cohort)

I am a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Qualified Clinical Supervisor, and NBCC National Certified Counselor. I have worked at UCF Counseling & Psychological Services since August 2011. I provide individual counseling, facilitate groups, supervise graduate students, and serve on our training committee. My areas of interest and expertise include college student identity development, grief & loss, domestic violence, depression, addiction, mindfulness & meditation, indigenous spirituality, and LGBTQ+ concerns. I completed my Master of Education at Clemson University in 1997. (Go Tigers!) I have a passion for helping college students and previously worked in higher education as an orientation leader, campus tour guide, resident assistant, hall director, and wellness educator. My proudest personal achievement has been completing the Ironman Arizona triathlon in November 2012 after learning to swim at age 34. Other random fun facts are that I am a practicing Quaker and worked at UPS as a package sorter to help pay for college.
